This experimental film
① is part of the visual
research on human perception regarding reality and liminal spaces. It combines the architecture and the
tactile information from daily experience.
Touch has a close connection to how the body perceives itself and the external physical world.
The haptic information that we collect subconsciously helps us in navigating activities or
environments.
I collected the textures from nature with the traditional Korean wet frottage method. This method
requires wetting the paper down to the surface and blotting ink to make a
print
②-④.
These prints were later hand-bound and exhibited with the film.
Traditional Korean architecture suggests window as a
frame to capture the nature from the inside. The
frames created by the alleyway, doors, and windows presents our reality into our view. By combining the
architectural spaces and the print, the film portrays how the physical space warps our perception of
the world.
This work has been exhibited
⑤ with the hand-bound
collection of the print and the tools
⑥ used for
frottage.
Look around for any frames that catch your eye.
What do you see in them?
